The Passing of a Legend
or Hail to the Chevy

As a few of my closest friends have noticed, I've started looking for an automobile junkyard where I can sell off our good friend Scurf. Scurf has served me, my family, and my friends very faithfully over the past 5 years/20k miles. However, the pain of 15 mpg and various bothersome fluid leaks over the past few weeks have spelled the end of our beloved truck. This Wednesday, July 6th, Scurf will become part of a massive auto parts lot on the Westside of Indianapolis, where his parts will be used to save the lives of other vehicles just like him. On Wednesday, I'll be taking a few pictures of him here at the apartment, which I will probably add to this post.

In memory of the rolling thunder machine, I invite anyone who has ever ridden in Scurf to leave some of your favorite experiences in the comment box. A few of my favorites:

- Racing through the red light at the 2/20 intersection...at 40 mph.

- Being heard before being seen (since 2004 when most of the exhaust system fell off in the parking lot of the New Carlisle library).

- Getting pulled over for 70 in a 20 and just being told to watch out for deer.

Finally, a word to the Truck Gods:

Oh Heavenly Pantheon of Domestic Vehicles!
Have mercy on your servent, Scurf
Who served us all from the day he was purchased
Needing only one battery
And a lot of gas.

Bless him as he goes on to Your open pastures
Touch and heal his leaky wounds
And wipe away the tears of oil from his cheeks
Saving his sweet soul
And erasing his pain.

We ask this in the name of the Radiator,
the Alternator,
and the Holy Spark Plugs.

Amen.

We loved you, buddy.
