Tidbits
or Minor Updates
Thomas Covenant - The second book in The Last Chronicles, Fatal Revenant, is due out this October. This is exciting for me, because for me, the Covenant books are one of the most well-written trilogies ever. While you do have to read the books with a dictionary at your side, I don't find that too distracting.
Under Construction - I want to find a way to bring good music to you, my Gentle Reader, without beating you over the head with it. So this section of this particular post is going to be tweaked over the next couple of weeks as I work at embedding some simple media player into the page. Eventually it will probably find a permanent home in the sidebar. Right now, the test track is a leaked track from an upcoming Nine Days album. The song is called "Favorite Song." Catchy title, no?
Edit (2/27/07): For some reason, I just discovered that the autoplay option isn't working the way it was supposed to. The song is not supposed to start playing immediately; for some reason, it does. For now, the player is commented out of the post until I figure out what I want to do with it.
School Blows - Does this really need any further explanation? I really hope that either I won't have to take any French classes this summer or that I'll still be able to make the Myrtle Beach trip without missing too much school. I need to boogie-board. Even though using the singular personal pronoun and the word "boogie" in a sentence seems like a recipe for disaster, I assure you that it requires very little coordination. Snorkeling proved to be much more dangerous last time (you can't see when the shark is coming up behind you - true story).
Green Christmas - El Nino can bite my ass. This has been one of the crappiest winters on record. I miss the winters like freshman year at Marian (either 2nd or 3rd snowiest in the city's history). You're thinking "But Josh, you were just saying how much you're looking forward to the beach. Make up your damn mind." True. But, as I give you the finger, I would point out that I just want things to be the way they are supposed to be: snowy in winter and warm in summer. Forget the rainy, muddy crap that has no place outside of the first couple weeks of April.
Year of the Prog Rockers - Both Elbow and Doves are looking to release new albums this year. Elbow's will hopefully arrive before fall, but I expect the Doves to need a good portion of this year to finish up their own work in the studio. The pressure is on for both bands. Elbow's last release was a big critical success, so they want to follow-up with a solid sequel. Doves' last album disappointed some fans (I wasn't one of them), but we don't know what impact (if any) this had on the drive behind the new album. If I can figure it out, I'd like to drop one of their newer b-sides into that media player project.
Hitmen = Bad - Last week's usual Wednesday stop at Marian became not so usual when Sr. Carol received a phone call from the IPD homicide department. A detective there wanted help crunching some probabilities on a case involving a hitman right here in Indianapolis. Without going into details, it would have been a monumental pain to produce accurate numbers and none of us felt up to the task. Apparently even "Wild Bill" Harting turned it down. In any case, is it really a good idea to help convict a hitman? Our jury of four came back with an answer immediately: f*ck no. [This was not the Sisters' actual response; I'm paraphrasing.]
The Spaces Between - $64,000 to the genius who can tell me how to get rid of the damn space following the last link in the archive list. I'm 98% certain it's something in Blogger's tag codes and not my own work, but I was wrong once. And that was a sad day.
Try the media player if you dare. If your computer blows up, that will teach you to push the button.
Stay young.
