Strike Two for Yahoo
or One Click Really Is a Big Deal
Roughly a week and a half ago, I noticed that the Mail module on my My Yahoo homepage wasn't working properly. Clicking on a message no longer took me to that message, but to the intermediary "Welcome to Mail!" page instead. I was irritated, but I assumed it was a minor bug introduced by the rollout of some new feature, so I let it go. By yesterday, I had had enough. I let them know of my displeasure and this was the response that I received.
No, you're reading that correctly. After telling me that they are forcing me out of the old format, the email adds insult to injury with the last line about how great new Yahoo Mail is. Never mind the fact that I've sent several other emails to the customer care/support center about how miserably bloated the new Mail and My Yahoo pages are - you know damn well they're keeping these emailed complaints indexed somewhere, but it must be too much to ask them to review these emails before responding to my query.
To rub even more salt into my wounds, it appears that they've taken to framing the Mail page in such a way that blocking the ads at the top of the page isn't enough to remove the obscenely large bar of dead space at the top of the screen (although this admittedly may have something to do with the lack of updates to the adblocker I'm using). Click the image below to see an enlarged version. Shed a tear with me.

Stay (wrist)strong, stay cool, stay young.
PS: One of the biggest announcements this blog will ever make arrives Friday - stay tuned.
PPS: For all of the ever-concerned readers who wondered why no announcement came on Friday, it's still on its way. This weekend was very busy, and the next couple will be the same way - this surprise business takes up a lot of time. But there's no escaping one date: June 28th. You'll definitely know by then. I swear it on my leatherbound copy of LotR.
