Quarterly Music Update Noble Beast is holding up very well, although the last album still holds the top place in his history for me. I finally grabbed a copy of Anathallo's second album Canopy Glow and while it doesn't use the same dynamic flow that made Floating World so amazing, every one of the songs is great. Sun Gangs and All the Plans both leaked; All the Plans is phenomenal while Sun Gangs only falls slightly shy of the raw power of Nux Vomica . Keane and The Killers bot...

Between last.fm and TBS, there are finally some decent sources for new music that aren't based purely on a sales-based metric. Book of the Year - Neal Stephenson's "Anathem" This book aggravated a number of Stephenson's closest followers because of its lengthy expositions into some pretty deeply philosophical questions. But for those of us who love both philosophy and science/math, this enormous tome was well worth the effort of learning all of the made-up words it contains. Challenging? Bring it....
Atonal Reflections: Vol. I Splender - "Halfway Down the Sky" I've been rummaging through my wall of CDs lately and I've decided to start pulling out some of the discs I haven't listened to in a long time to see how well they've held up over the years. This ongoing "Atonal Reflections" column will chronicle each of these rediscoveries - the good, the bad, and the scratched-beyond-playable. The good will stay and work their way back into a regular rotation. The bad will probably be sold for pennies on eBay to make room for some new material. So far, the whole process has been really weird. Most of these have been in my possession less than 10 years, but some of them call to mind thoughts or events that seem lifetimes away. Observations on a 5 Month Absence or The Blog's Not Dead! Really! Most of you are probably already aware that we're now comfortably ensconced in our new home on the north side of South Bend. However, you probably weren't aware of all of the little things that came with the place. Let me elaborate. - We have a quarter of a million pounds of leaves blanketing our backyard. I've seen squirrels fall out of trees onto the ground only to drown with a loud rustle and a *poof* of brown oak leaves. Solution: Burn the backyard. Pros include the simplicity of the act and very little cleanup. Cons include simultaneously burning down the entire neighborhood along with the yard. Sarah and I are still discussing the matter. - Even a relatively new house can have little features that could use a replacement. Take for example our kitchen faucet.
